Classroom success continues to trend upward in the Biomedical Sciences program at Canadian Valley Technology Center, with student performance on Advanced Placement (AP) exams consistently exceeding state and national averages.

Students in the program posted strong results across AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics and AP Pre-Calculus. A score of 3 or higher on the 1 to 5 scale is considered passing on AP exams.

On the AP Biology exam this past year, CV Tech students achieved a mean score of 3.79, which was well above the state average of 2.86 and the national average of 3.24. Additionally, 93 percent of CV Tech students earned a score of 3 or higher, compared to 59 percent statewide and 70 percent nationally.

Over a three-year period, at least 90 percent of CV Tech students passed their AP exams, significantly outperforming the state average of 57 percent and the national average of 67 percent.

Strong performance extended to other subjects. CV Tech students earned an average score of 3.61 on the AP Pre-Calculus exam, compared to 3.07 statewide and 3.55 nationally. On the AP Statistics exam, students posted a mean score of 3.12, surpassing both the state (2.84) and national (2.92) averages.

In AP Chemistry, CV Tech students recorded a mean score of 3.11, exceeding the state average of 2.90. The national average of 3.36 was the only benchmark to surpass CV Tech’s performance in that subject.

The Biomedical Sciences program provides high school students with a head start on advanced medical studies, serving districts from Bethany, west to El Reno, and from Mustang, north to Calumet.

Through hands-on learning, students explore topics such as human anatomy, cell biology, genetics and disease. Project Lead the Way coursework is complemented by rigorous science and math instruction, preparing students for both college and careers in healthcare and related fields. Many colleges provide college credit for scores of 3 or more while others require at least 4 for credit.
