About the Program

The Basic Peace Officer Certification (BPOC) program prepares students for careers in public safety, corrections or law enforcement. Students not only learn police fundamentals and functions but are also introduced to forensics and criminal investigation. Students study criminal law, procedures and defensive tactics for law enforcement.

Program Highlights

The Basic Peace Officer Certification (BPOC) at CVTech is made possible through a collaborative effort between the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET), the Oklahoma legislature, and Career Tech. The program prepares cadets for a career in law enforcement, corrections, and public safety. Cadets learn a variety of police fundamentals and functions including, Firearms and Investigations & Forensics.

The hands-on training will provide realistic training scenarios from highly qualified instructors. Students will be held to the highest standard and evaluated on their ability to demonstrate their competency and ability for all aspects of the training program. Our curriculum meets all CLEET-mandated basic peace officer requirements and includes training in the following areas:

Students that complete this program may receive credit from SWOSU for 29 hours of 4000 level course credit.

Prerequisites

Suggested Entry Level Skills

10th grade reading level; Basic math skills

All students:

  • Must be 21 years old prior to the first day of class
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must provide proof of United States citizenship or resident alien status
  • No Felony Convictions
  • No Protective Orders
  • Cannot have a deferred sentence agreement for a felony, a crime involving moral turpitude, or a crime of domestic violence
  • Cannot have any criminal charges pending in any court in this state, any other state, in tribal court, or pursuant to the United States Code
  • Cannot be currently undergoing treatment for a mental illness, condition, or disorder
  • Must Complete C.L.E.E.T. Basic Academy Application (including fingerprints, background check, physical assessment and POSSE exam, MMPI)
    • CLEET Application includes: Physical Assessment prior to acceptance; the reading, writing, and comprehension examination (POSSE exam – 70%); the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) examination and receive clearance from the reviewing psychologist; background search submitted to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation
  • Must complete and return the Academy Application no later than 4 pm on August 1, for the August Academy and December 18 for the January Academy.

Basic Academy Application (including fingerprints, background check, physical assessment and POSSE exam, MMPI) and complete a Canadian Valley Technology Application for Admission.
