Warmer temperatures have many area gardeners thinking Spring, and students at Canadian Valley Technology Center are ready to help.
The annual Spring Bedding Plant Sale will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 10, at CV Tech’s El Reno Campus greenhouse. The sale is hosted by students in the Service Careers Building and Grounds program, where horticulture is a major component of the curriculum.
Tomato plants, including Roma and cherry varieties, were grown from seed, along with Pequin and jalapeño peppers. Herbs, including basil, thyme and chamomile will be available. Succulents are new this year, including 14-inch pots featuring echeveria, hobbit jade and sedum. Other popular selections include “New Look” dusty miller plants, sweet potato vines and an Oklahoma favorite ground cover known as Purple Sparklers.
Shoppers will also find sun-loving plants such as pentas and portulaca, along with shade annuals including begonias and impatiens. Butterfly bushes and Russian sage are expected to be in demand, as well. The greenhouse is located on the east side of campus at 6505 E. Highway 66, with ample parking adjacent to the building. Proceeds will be given to the CV Tech Foundation, which supports students through hardship grants, scholarships and leadership activities.
