Working in a grocery store wasn’t going to pay the bills for very long, thought Alex McCaughey. That’s why he began spreading his resume around at area temp agencies. He knew he received excellent training at Canadian Valley Technology Center, and he knew he wanted to be a machinist. Despite a downturn in the economy, he held out hope that he would land a job. “Left and right every few days I got a call saying they wanted to get me a job,” he said. Now Alex, also a recent Yukon High School grad, is working as a CNC machinist at Eaton Hydraulics in Shawnee. His starting pay was nearly $20 per hour, which he said was a welcome boost to his wallet. As for CV Tech, Alex said his training was great. “I definitely enjoyed my teacher and how helpful he was,” he said. “I liked everything about it. The atmosphere was friendly, and it seemed easy to be out there getting prepared for my career.”
