This class will provide you with classroom instruction and hands on training in various welding technologies including oxyfuel cutting, shielded metal arc welding (stick), gas metal arc welding (MIG) and gas tungsten arc welding (TIG). Instruction is self paced and individualized, but can be focused on a specific welding technology or lead to an industry welding certification if desired. Major topics include welding theory, safety, blueprint reading and basic through advanced welding skills.
Basic Welding 1 is an overview of each welding technology with a primary emphasis on basic stick welding techniques. Basic Welding 2 focuses on advanced stick welding (improving techinique, learning new positions) and includes an introduction to MIG welding. Intermediate Welding 3 enhances your MIG welding skills and technique. Advanced Welding 4 is mostly TIG welding but other advanced topics are covered depending on your requirements (or your company's requirements).
Students are allowed to bring some home projects to class to work on, with instructor approval. On campus storage space not available for projects and students must supply all materials for any approved projects.
Steel toed boots and long sleeved shirt strongly recommended. Safety glasses and welding gloves are required.
