Precision Machining - Basic/Intermediate/Advanced

machining

NEW! A precision machinist is a sculptor removing material from solid metal to create highly precise parts that have great value in industry - from Aerospace, Military and medical - to Transportation, Oil and Gas, and Manufacturing. Precision Machining prepares you for careers in machine operations such as tool making, milling, lathing, precision grinding, and programming CNC machines. If you later pursue an engineering degree. If you want to develop skills required for technical manufacturing operations; or, if you are interested in learning a specific area of machining, we invite you to start precision machining classes with us.

Basic Precision Machining
includes general shop and machine safety, machining terminology, machining mathematics and precision measurements, blueprint reading (understanding drawings), and the basics of manual turning, grinding, drilling, and milling operations. You will receive classroom instruction, watch videos, read and study machining books; and, work on basic turning, boring, facing, and milling in our state of the art machining shop. No Prerequisites.

Intermediate Precision Machining
will increase your knowledge in lathe, mills and drill press operations (including setup), using different work holding devices; and, introduce you to the basics CNC coding/operations. Typical tasks will include cutting tapers and screw threads, grooving, pocket milling, drilling and tapping. Prerequisite: Basic Precision Machining or equivalent experience.

Advanced Precision Machining
will allow students to work on various lathe and mill tasks that utilize our CNC equipment. Shop activities in drawing basics/engineering (CAD/CAM) are used to improve your understanding of CNC machines/CNC programming. Other Advanced topics are available with the instructor approval. Prerequisite: Intermediate Precision Machining or equivalent experience.

In all classes, the student is responsible for materials on personal or special projects approved by the instructor. Safety glasses and books are required after the first class.
Student is responsible for supplies & safety glasses. Book Required after class start.
