High School Senior Nears Completion of CV Tech’s Nurse Aid Class

CV Tech student is a senior at Bethany High School.

Mason Wyett has a passion to work with children with complex medical needs or chronic health conditions. With Canadian Valley Technology Center, he is working his plan to make that dream a reality.

Wyett, 18, is a Bethany High School senior who enrolled in CV Tech’s Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) course to make himself a viable job candidate.

The CNA class is among nearly two dozen short-term Flex Health courses at CV Tech’s Cowan Campus near Yukon. Flex Health consists of in-person and online classes offered at convenient times to help students balance work, education and family responsibilities.

These courses are open to any student who is at least 16 years old. These Adult, Career and Community Development (ACCD) classes are budget friendly, said Sharon Mitchell, CV Tech Business and Industry Services Coordinator.

Wyett’s high school schedule left him with enough time to take the CNA course during the daytime. He said having his CNA certification will help jump-start a planned medical care career.

Wyett said the CNA class focuses on long-term care and provides a good foundation for anyone seeking to enter the health care field.

“Right now I am studying human anatomy,” he said, “but I just learned how to measure meals and how to assist patients with exercise.”

The class wraps up in May. Wyett’s long-range plans include working while pursuing a registered nurse program. Eventually, he plans to choose between either a nurse practitioner or certified registered nurse pathway.
