Network Security Professional (Networking Emphasis)

This major prepares students to plan, coordinate and implement security measures for networking systems. Students first learn the basics of repair and maintenance of computer hardware, software and operating systems along with the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of network hardware. Then they are introduced to basic security principles involving networks and operating systems, including the current threats and vulnerabilities of the cyber landscape. They gain an understanding of the principles of risk management, security architectures, incident handling, disaster recovery and secure systems administration. Students gain skills required for certifications offered by Microsoft, CIW, CompTIA, Novell, and Cisco, along with additional security certifications for Security Certified Network Specialist (SCNP), Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP), and Security Certified Network Architect (SCNA).
